AI and Intelligent Robots
【Introduction】
TheXJTU Global Summer School on AI and Intelligent Robots is an academic program hosted by Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU).The course leader is Professor Xiaodong Zhang, who is a professor/doctoral supervisor at Xi'an Jiaotong University, the deputy director of the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems, and the leader of the innovation team for Bio-mechatronics and service robotsat the School of Mechanical Engineering in Xi’an Jiaotong University. This course invites Professor Huosheng Hu, a doctoral supervisor and leading figure in the field of robotics researchat the University of Essex in the UK, and internationally renowned expert in robotics research to deliver cutting-edge knowledge on Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals, Intelligent Control Technology, Data Driven Decision Making, and Case Practice to Help Students Master Data Processing, Robot Navigation, and Programming Skills.
With a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration, the program covers two core modules:
1. Course on Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Robots (20 hours): Explaining artificial intelligence, data collection, robot technology, and data-driven intelligent decision-making and system optimization. This section is publicly presented in the form of free registration and learning for the whole society.
2. Simulation Experiment Practice Course (20 hours): Focus on robot operating system, robot programming, PID control, fuzzy control, robot navigation. This section is only for offline tutoring or lectures for undergraduate and graduate students at Xi'an Jiaotong University.
This course has been scheduled for July 14-27, 2025, with 40 class hours over two weeks. Among them, the 9-11th classes will be held from Monday to Saturday (Beijing time 19:40-22:30pm, 3 class hours); The 9th and 10th classes on Sunday (Beijing time 19:40-21:30pm, 2 classes). The teaching adopts a combination of online and offline methods, including Professor Huosheng Hu's online course teaching at Beijing time 19:40-21:30pm from Monday to Friday, and Professor Xiaodong Zhang and Tutor Zirui Zhao’s offline simulation experiments and other teaching content atBeijing time 21:40 to 22:30pm from Monday to Friday, 19:40 to 22:30pm on Saturday and 19:40 to 21:30pm on Sunday.

【Lecturer Profile】

Professor Huosheng Hu
Huosheng Hu is a Professor in the School of Computer Science & Electronic Engineering at the University of Essex, United Kingdom. He received the MSc degree in industrial automation from the Central South University in China and the PhD degree in robotics from the University of Oxford in the U.K. His research interests include autonomous robotics, human-robot interaction, embedded systems, mechatronics, data fusion, learning algorithms, and industrial automation. He has published over 500 papers in journals, books, and conferences in these areas, and received several best paper awards. He has 20818 citations, and H-Index of 69 (Google Scholars).
He has been recognized as the top 2% of most cited scholars in the world in 2021. Prof. Hu is a Fellow of Institute of Engineering & Technology, a Fellow of Institute of Measurement & Control, a life senior member of IEEE and a founding member of IEEE Robotics & Automation Society Technical committee on Networked Robots. He has been a Program Chair or a member of Advisory/Organizing Committee for many international conferences such as IEEE IROS, ICRA, ICMA, ROBIO conferences. He is currently Executive Editor for International Journal of Mechatronics and Automation, as well as Former Editor-in-Chief for International Journal of Automation and Computing and Former Editor-in-Chief for MDPI Robotics Journal.

Professor Xiaodong Zhang
Professor Xiaodong Zhang received the B.E. degree in Energy and Power Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an, China, in 1989, and the M.E. and Ph.D. degree in Mechanics from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an, China, in 1992 and 1996, respectively. From 1996 to 2010, he was a Teacher, and in 1999 promoted as an Associate Professor in school of Mechanical Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an, China. Since 2011 he has been a Professor, and now is a deputy director, Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems with school of Mechanical Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an, China.
Professor Xiaodong Zhang was a Visiting Scholar in Department of Mechanical and Medical Engineering, University of Bradford, UK, about three months from 2001 to 2002. He was a Researcher in School of Mechanical Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University, Korea, about two years from 2003 to 2005. He was a visiting professor in the Lab on Intelligent robotics, Michigan State University, USA, about one month in November, 2010, and in the Lab on the Control and Intelligent Systems Engineering, University of Hull, UK, about 3 weeks in October, 2011, and in School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, about 2 weeks in July, 2017, and in the Lab on Mechatronics and Intelligent robotics, University of Essex, UK, about 6 months from 2019 to 2020, respectively. Furthermore, he was a lecture professor funded by K. C. Wong Education Foundation in Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, about 2 weeks in December, 2018.
Professor Xiaodong Zhang has published more than 140 papers, include 48 papers indexed by SCI & about 100 papers indexed by EI, and won 30 Patents of invention & 10 Design Patents, and served as an Associate Editor of Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology & Editor of Intelligent Service Robotics. He won best paper award of the 2008 International Conference on Rehabilitation in China, best session paper award of CCCT 2010 in USA, best application paper award of IEEE URAI 2016 in China, outstanding paper award of IEEE URAI 2017 in Korea, finalist best paper award of IEEE CYBER 2019 in China, respectively. He served the IEEE NEMS 2015 as the local arrangement chair, the IEEE URAI 2016 & URAI 2017 as a program co-chair, and the IEEE CYBER 2020 & CIVEMSA2024 as the General Chair. His recent research interests are Robotics and Intelligent System, Bio-mechatronics technology, EEG/EMG signal processing and its application on robotics, intelligent measurement and control technology, etc.

·Enrollment: Limited to 300 participants online, and 100participants offline.

·Certificate: Participants who complete all lectures and submit a final report will receive a Certificate of Completion issued by Xi'an Jiaotong University.
