Overview

Big data has gained worldwide popularity in recent times. What happens when big data collaborates with engineering? Does it lead to innovative advancements in technology? This program aims to explore the interaction between big data and engineering across various fields, offering world-class education from expert instructors.

The program brings together experts from diverse fields, each with extensive research experience from leading universities in Asia, North America, and Europe. Audiences can expect a unique blend of English language and technological expertise, providing them with a distinctive learning experience.


International Teaching Group

Professor Ruqiang Yan

Professor Ruqiang Yan is the Director of the International Machinery Center at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University. He received the M.S. degree in precision instrument and machinery from the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China, in 2002, and the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, MA, USA, in 2007. Dr. Yan is a Fellow of IEEE (2022) and ASME (2019). His honors and awards include the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society Distinguished Service Award in 2022, and Technical Award in 2019, and multiple best paper awards. Dr. Yan serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, and Editorial Board Member of several other journals. He is the Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society.

Professor Liuyang Zhang

Professor Liuyang Zhang is the Vice Director of the International Machinery Center at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University. Professor Zhang received the doctorate degree from University of Georgia in 2016.He has been selected into Xi 'an Jiaotong University Youth Top Talent program. He published more than 90 papers and authorized 10 invention patents. He presided over the National Natural Science Foundation Project, Provincial Key Project,etc. He is mainly engaged in the research of terahertz detection and imaging technology, intelligent sensor design and manufacturing, and state sensing and monitoring technology.

Professor Jin Zhou

Professor Jin Zhou is the National Youth Distinguished Professor, doctoral supervisor and Honorary Research Fellow of the University of Liverpool. Professor Zhou graduated from the University of Liverpool and has been engaged in the research of impact dynamics of aviation composite materials, lightweight structure design optimization, advanced manufacturing and rapid prototyping theory in Cambridge University and Imperial College London. He undertook more than 10 academic topics and engineering projects of EPSRC in the UK. He published more than 50 papers in well-known journals in the field of Composites Science and Technology, Composite Structures, Composite Part B, etc. His research has been applied in the engineering of lightweight impact-resistant energy absorption structure and rapid prototyping manufacturing of commercial airliners. He worked as a senior structural engineer in the British industry for 8 years, presided over industrial R&D projects such as structural mechanics optimization and friction welding additive manufacturing, and obtained industrial technology licenses in many countries.



Professor Yanshan Lou

Professor Yanshan Lou is Humboldt Scholar and  was selected in  Xi’an Jiaotong University Youth Top Talent program. Professor Lou received his PhD degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Tecnology - KAIST and has worked as the Humboldt Scholar at Institute of Forming Technology and Structural Lightweight (IUL) from 2014 to 2015 led by fellow of the German Academy of Sciences, Professor A.E. Tekkaya. He is engaged in the research of plastic constitutive and damage fracture experimental design, constitutive model construction and finite element application of light metal. The proposed constitutive model was implanted into the internationally renowned commercial finite element software Ansys LS-DYNA (*MAT_LOU_YOON_ANISOTROPIC_ PLASTICITY). In 2019, he was awarded the O.C. Zienkiewicz Award (the Father of Finite Element - the Sinkiewicz Award) by NUMIFORM2019 and won the 2021 Int. J. Plasticity Young Research Award (the first in China) issued by Journal of Plasticity Mechanics.

Associate Professor Pei Li

Associate Professor Pei Li received his PhD degree from National University of Singapore, and joined Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2021 as the laureate of XJTU Youth Top Talent Support Program. Prior to that, he was an assistant professor at University of Twente, as an awardee of the Netherlands "Sectorplan Techniek" program. He was also selected for the TUM University Foundation Fellowship and TUM ROW grant in 2019.

Dr. Yanan Wang

Dr. Yanan Wang received her PhD degree from University of Southampton. After graduation, Dr. Wang has worked at the Rolls-Royce UTC in Propulsion Systems Noise, University of Southampton. In 2020, she joined Xi'an Jiaotong University and was selected to Xi 'an Jiaotong University Qingxiu A program. She has been working on CFD simulation and aerodynamic noise prediction for a long time and has published many papers in the fields.

Dr. Xiaochuan Liu

Dr. Liu Xiaochuan received his Master and doctoral degrees from Imperial College London. Dr. Liu is an assistant professor in Xi 'an Jiaotong University. He carried out the intelligent design and manufacturing of high-strength lightweight complex parts systematically, and achieved outstanding academic achievements and engineering applications. More than 30 academic papers have been published and 2 achievements have been transformed, which are used to establish the first domestic aluminum alloy sheet metal body supply chain and develop domestic finite element simulation software for large-scale industrial metal sheet forming, with an estimated market value of about 200 million yuan. He participated in a number of international cooperative scientific research projects, and the research results were applied to the forming and manufacturing of titanium alloy components of a certain type of aircraft fuselage skin and turbofan engine reverse thrust structure and Aston Martin automobile aluminum alloy components.

Dr. Haibao Liu

Dr. Liu Haibao received a PhD in aeronautical Engineering from Bombardier-Queen's University in 2018. In the same year, Dr. Liu joined Imperial College London for postdoctoral work. He is an assistant professor and a doctoral supervisor in Queen Mary University of London. His research interests include damage prediction and failure analysis of composite structures, structural design and optimization of yarns and fabrics and composite structure repair and performance evaluation. He has published more than 40 SCI journal papers (Citation>700, h-index=15). He was awarded the Best Paper of the Year award by the Royal Aeronautical Society of the United Kingdom in July 2019 and the Excellent Paper of the Year Award by the International Journal of Lightweight Materials and Manufacturing in October 2019. He is also a member of the Technical Committee of the British Society of Strain Measurement and Assistant editor of the International Journal of Lightweight Materials and Manufacturing.

Professor Zhongwei Guan

Professor Zhong Wei Guan is the Head of the Centre of Lightweight Composite Structures in the Department of Engineering, University of Liverpool. Professor Guan’s research focuses on the impact response of lightweight composite structures under extreme load conditions, such as impact and explosion, including fiber metal laminates, PVC foam-based sandwiches and SLM lattice structures, corrugated sandwiches, and high temperature thermoplastic prepregs. Professor Guan received a key grant of 4.8 million euros from the European Union and led a scientific research team from 6 countries in the European Union to develop binders free pure wood composite structural members. He has published more than 300 papers in international journals and conferences, including more than 120 SCI papers, the H-index of Google Academic search is 30 and was cited more than 2480 times. He is the editor of the journal “International Impact Engineering” and the member of the academic committee of more than 20 international conferences. He received the award of the IAAM (International Association for Advanced Materials) Medal and the Fellow Award of International Chinese Society of Computational Mechanics (ICACM)
